Life

When she was three years old, her parents fled with her from the regime of the dictator Mobuto, initially to neighboring Angola , and from there to Europe. In 1984 the family got asylum in Austria and settled in Vienna. According to Ngosso, they were supported by the SPÖ and the Catholic Church.

The parents tried to raise them in an “exaggerated” Austrian way. Only German and French were spoken at home. She first attended high school, but dropped out of school because of problems with teachers. She worked and planned a career as a jazz singer. Nina Simone was her role model . At an evening grammar school, she made up her Matura and decided to study medicine. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Kingston University in London . From 2005 to 2016 she studied human medicine at the Medical University of Vienna . Mireille Ngosso has been training as a general surgeon at the Hietzing Hospital since 2019 ; she is married and has a son.

Your most important concern is the expansion of affordable living space. The first district must remain a residential district. As a further focus, she named improved health care.

In the internal election for the top candidate of the SPÖ for the first district for the 2020 district representative election , she did not receive the necessary majority with 45.2%.

Racist Hostility

From the beginning of her political career, Mireille Ngosso was exposed to racist remarks. According to her own statements, she first felt threatened in 2000 after a black and blue government had been elected in Austria . Meanwhile, hateful attacks against them have also spread to the internet. Her party colleagues Muna Duzdar and Saya Ahmad had also experienced discrimination. Even so, Mireille Ngosso remains confident. It is a sign of the cosmopolitanism of the City of Vienna that she was elected to this position as a woman “with a visible migration background”.
