Saya Ahmad (2019)

Saya Ahmad (born March 31, 1984 in Kirkuk , Iraq ) is an Austrian local politician for the SPÖ in Vienna . The Kurd , who comes from Iraq, has been a district councilor and SPÖ vice-club boss of the 9th district of Alsergrund in Vienna since 2013 and has been chairwoman of the SPÖ women in Alsergrund since 2017. After a battle vote on March 12, 2018, she has been the district chairman since June 27, 2018 .

Life

Ahmad fled to Austria with her family in 1991 and grew up in Carinthia . In 2004 she completed a degree in International Development and Arabic Studies at the University of Vienna . She is involved in the League for Emancipatory Development Cooperation (LeEZA), just like her younger sister Soma Ahmad. She was the media spokeswoman for SPÖ councilor Sandra Frauenberger and is married to the SPÖ councilor in Vienna, Marcus Gremel .

On June 27, 2018, she was sworn in as the successor to Martina Malyar as district head of Vienna-Alsergrund .
