Michael Helmrath

Michael Helmrath (born April 15, 1954 in Wuppertal ) is a German oboist and conductor and has been general music director of the Nordhausen / Loh-Orchester Sondershausen theater since the 2016/2017 season .

Life

After studying oboe and conducting at the Cologne University of Music , Helmrath began a career as an oboist , which led him to the Munich Philharmonic as solo oboist and Sergiu Celibidache , who recognized and promoted him as a conductor .

In 1989 he founded the Munich Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra , consisting of the first consoles of the Munich Philharmonic with its own series of concerts in the Philharmonie . From 2000 to 2015 he was general music director of the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra , which under his leadership was nominated as “Orchestra of the Year” by the “ Opernwelt ” magazine .

In addition to the classical opera and concert repertoire, he also deals with contemporary music , numerous works were premiered under his direction . There are also numerous radio and television recordings as well as CD recordings.

Michael Helmrath has been General Music Director of the Nordhausen / Loh-Orchester Sondershausen Theater since the 2016/2017 season .
