David Gemmell Award
The David Gemmell Award is a British literary prize that has been awarded since 2009 for works in the field of fantasy . In the first year the award was only given for the best fantasy novel ( Best Fantasy Novel ). Since 2010, two further prizes have been awarded or it is awarded in two further categories, namely the Ravenheart Award for the best cover image of a fantasy title ( Best Fantasy Cover Art ) and the Morningstar Award for the best debut in the fantasy genre ( Best Fantasy Newcomers ). Since 2011 the award for the best fantasy novel has been called the Legend Award for Best Fantasy Novel . The winners are determined through an open voting process.
The award honors the memory of British heroic fantasy writer David Gemmell, who died in 2006 . The Legend Award trophy is a model of Snaga , the ax of the warrior Druss from Gemmell's best-known novel The Legend , made by Simon Fearnhamm. The Ravenheart Award and Morningstar Award trophies are fantasy figurines made by Lee Blair.
The award is presented annually at the edge-lit - Convention in Derby awarded. British fantasy writer Stan Nicholls is the organizer and chairman of the award committee .
