David Llewellyn Jenkins, Baron Jenkins PC KC (* 8. April 1899 ; † 6. April 1969 ) was a British lawyer who most recently as Lord of Appeal in Ordinary , due to the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 as a Life Peer and Member of the House of Lords was .

Life

Jenkins, whose father Sir John Lewis Jenkins member of the Council of the Governor-General of India and Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India was made after visiting the Charterhouse School during the First World War, his military service in the Rifle Brigade . After that, he graduated in law at Balliol College of Oxford University and received after the end of 1923 his legal approval to the Bar Association ( Inns of Court ) from Lincoln's Inn. He then took up a job as a barrister and received the title of Crown Attorney ( King's Counsel ) for his legal services in 1938 .

After serving in the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) during World War II, Jenkins was named "Bencher" of the Lincoln's Inn Bar Association in 1945 and Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster in 1946 . In 1947 he became a judge in the Chamber of Economic Matters ( Chancery Division ) at the High Court of Justice responsible for England and Wales and held this judicial office until 1949. Successor as Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster was then Gerald Upjohn . At the same time he was beaten to a Knight Bachelor degree in 1947 and has since had the suffix "Sir".

After completing this judicial activity, he was appointed judge ( Lord Justice of Appeal ) in 1949 at the Court of Appeal , the court of appeal responsible for England and Wales, where he worked until 1951. He was also appointed Privy Councilor in 1949.

Last Jenkins was a Letters Patent from April 6, 1959 due to the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 as a life peer with the title Baron Jenkins , of Ashley Gardens in the City of Westminster, a member of the House of Lords in the nobility called and worked until his death in 1969 as Lord Judge ( Lord of Appeal in Ordinary ). Between 1959 and 1962 he was also chairman of the Jenkins Committee on Company Law , named after him , which presented a report on the reform of company law in 1962.
