David Lewis Prosser

David Lewis Prosser (born June 10, 1868 , † February 28, 1950 in Abergwili ) was a British clergyman. From 1944 to 1949 he was a primate of the Anglican Church in Wales .

Prosser was born in June 1868 to David Prosser from Tŷ Gwyn near Llangynnor in Carmarthenshire and his wife Elizabeth. He attended Llandovery College and then studied at Keble College of the University of Oxford , where he worked with a third-class honors degree graduate in history. In 1891 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and in 1895 a Master of Arts (MA).

Prosser was ordained a deacon on December 18, 1892 by Basil Jones , Bishop of St. David's, and became curate of Holy Trinity Church in Aberystwyth . He was ordained a priest on December 21, 1893 by John Lloyd, the suffragan bishop of Swansea . In 1896 Prosser became a curate at Christ Church in Swansea. He held this office until 1909 when he became vicar of Pembroke Dock . In 1920 Prosser was named Archdeacon of St. David's. In 1927 he became Bishop of St. David's . When Charles Alfred Howell Green stepped down from the office of Archbishop of Wales in 1944, Prosser was elected as the new Archbishop. Prosser held this office until his resignation in 1949. But he remained Bishop of St. David's until his death. He was buried in Abergwili.

Prosser wrote a number of pious writings. In 1949 Prosser was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Wales .
