John Owen

John Owen (born August 24, 1854 in Ysgubor Wen , Caernarfonshire ( today: Gwynedd ), † November 4, 1926 in London ) was an Anglican bishop .

John Owen was born in August 1854 to Griffith Owen and his wife Ann. He attended Jesus College at the University of Oxford and in 1876 his Bachelor of Arts (BA), and in 1879 his Master of Arts (MA).

After three years teaching at Appleby Grammar School , Owen returned to Wales in 1879 and became a professor and lecturer at St. David's College in Lampeter . In the same year he became Bishop William Basil Jones for deacon ordained. He was ordained a priest in 1880.

Owen spent six years in Lampeter before succeeding Alfred George Edwards as Warden (Head) of Llandovery College . When Edwards became Bishop of St Asaph in 1889, he made Owen Dean . In 1892, however, Owen returned to Lampeter and became a principal of St. David's College , which he remained until 1897. In that year he was named Bishop of St Davids. Owen held the office of bishop until his death in November 1926. He was buried in Abergwili .

Since 1882 he was married to Amelia Longstaff. The marriage resulted in four sons and six daughters.
