David Lumsdaine
David Lumsdaine (born October 31, 1931 in Sydney ) is an Australian composer.
Lumsdaine studied at the Conservatory and the University of Sydney , was from 1953 in London a student of Mátyás Seiber and finally of Lennox Berkeley at the Royal Academy of Music . He composed several cantatas based on texts by Peter Porter and established his reputation as a composer with orchestral works such as Kelly Ground (1966), Flights (1967), Mandala 1 (1967) and Mandala 2 (1969).
Since the 1960s he was also a sought-after music teacher. From 1970 he taught at the University of Durham , where he founded an electronic music studio. He later held a chair at King's College London with his wife, composer Nicola LeFanu . After retiring from academic life in 1993, he moved to York , where his wife worked as a music professor at the university.
