David Nathaniel Friedrich Dietrich (born October 3, 1799 in Ziegenhain , † December 23, 1888 in Jena ) was a German botanist and gardener. His botanical author abbreviation is " D.Dietr. "

Life

Dietrich devoted himself to botany and from 1828 worked as an academic botanical gardener in Jena. In 1836 he received his doctorate from the University of Jena . Dietrich became curator of the herbarium (see Jena Botanical Garden ) of the University of Jena under Ernst Stahl .

He was the nephew of the botanist Friedrich Gottlieb Dietrich (1765-1850), who was court garden director in Eisenach .

Fonts

Dietrich wrote writings on poisonous plants, mosses and forest flora of the flora of Germany as well as several botanical lexicons. In his five-volume Synopsis Plantarum , written between 1839 and 1852, over 80,000 species and 524 genera are described. Germany's Flora from 1833 to 1864, also in five volumes, contains 1150 partly colored plates. Flora Universalis , comprising 476 booklets , was published between 1831 and 1861.
