David Nelson (actor)
David Nelson (born October 24, 1936 in New York City , † January 11, 2011 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor , film director and film producer .
life and career
David Nelson was born the son of band leader and singer Ozzie Nelson and singer Harriet Hilliard . His brother, three and a half years his junior, was singer and actor Eric “Ricky” Nelson . He became famous for the long-lived television series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1954–1966), in which he appeared with his parents and brother. The family had previously been heard together on the radio series Here Come the Nelsons from 1944 onwards . David Nelson became very well known, but was somewhat overshadowed by the success of his younger brother Ricky, who, unlike him, was also a singer and was able to record chart successes.
Towards the end of the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet series , David Nelson directed several episodes. He later worked as a director for several television series, documentaries and low-budget films. His films include Childish Things (1969) with Don Murray and Linda Evans , the action film Flight from Hell (1983) with Jan-Michael Vincent and the horse film The Abduction (1984) with George Kennedy . His last directorial work was the documentary Rick Nelson: A Brother Remembers in 1987 , in which he thematized the life of his brother Ricky, who had recently died in a plane crash. In addition to his work as a director and producer, David Nelson was sporadically active as an actor in later years: in 1990, reminiscent of his time as a 1950s television star, he had a supporting role in the comedy Cry-Baby by John Waters, which was set in this period .
Nelson had two children from his marriage to actress June Blair (* 1933) between 1961 and 1975. In September 1975 he married Yvonne O'Connor Huston, whose three children he adopted and with whom he remained married until his death. David Nelson was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the television category in 1996. He died in January 2011 at the age of 74 from complications from colon cancer.
