David Graham (composer)

David Paul Graham (born January 22, 1951 in Stratford-upon-Avon ) is a British composer and music teacher .

Life

David Graham studied composition , piano and conducting at Reading University . He continued his studies from 1980 to 1983 in the master class of Hans Werner Henze at the Cologne University of Music . After a long stay in Italy , where he directed the music school of Montepulciano as Animatore Culturale from 1983 to 1986 . a. was responsible for the local contribution to the local music festival, he now lives as a composer and composition teacher in Bonn. His compositions have been performed at numerous festivals (e.g. Almeida Festival , London ; Munich Biennale ; Columbus Festival , Udine ; Steirischer Herbst ; Luis Casas Romero , Camagüey ). He wrote film music a. a. for Volker Schlöndorff and Bill Douglas .

David Graham has been married to Bettina Graham, née Kopton, since 1987. The couple have two children, Philip and Victoria.

Educational activities

As a composition teacher at the music school in Montepulciano, he led a children's composition class that composed an opera together that was later performed by children and young people. Internationally, this became a model for numerous similar projects. David Graham built in 1986 at the Clara Schumann Music School in Dusseldorf a composition class for children and young people whose participants both common operas, operettas and film music composing, as well as individually write compositions for various occupations.
