Dawid Semjonowitsch Goloschtschokin ( Russian Давид Семёнович Голощёкин , English David Semyonovich Goloshchekin or David Goloshokin, born June 10, 1944 in Moscow ) is a Russian jazz musician and composer . The multi-instrumentalist plays the violin as the main instrument , as well as saxophone , vibraphone , piano , bass , drums and flugelhorn .

Live and act

Dawid Goloschtschokin began his musical career in the Leningrad jazz scene ; In 1962 there were encounters with American musicians such as Phil Woods and Zoot Sims , who were touring the Soviet Union with the Benny Goodman Orchestra ; Goloschekin reports on this in the documentary film Jazz for the Russians - To Russia with Jazz . From 1963 he directed the Ensemble Gonoschekina (Ансамбль Голощёкина) , which from 1980 called itself the Leningrad Jazz Ensemble . In the 1960s he worked with Gennadi Golstein and Konstantin Nossow , in 1966/67 in Moscow with Eddie Rosner and in the 1970s with Oleg Lundstrem . He also played with Monty Alexander , Benny Golson , Wynton Marsalis , Billy Taylor and Woody Shaw throughout his career . In 1987 he co-founded the Collage ensemble . He also composed film music and was honored as a People's Artist of Russia in 1999. In 2011 he was director of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Jazz Ensemble.

He is the director of the St. Petersburg Jazz Philharmonic Hall, which is considered the stronghold of mainstream and traditional jazz in the Soviet Union.
