David Strickland

David Gordon Strickland Jr. (born October 14, 1969 in Glen Cove , New York state , † March 22, 1999 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American actor .

Life

Strickland was best known for the role of the music journalist Todd Styles in the sitcom Susan . In the 1990s, he played supporting roles in the television series Always Trouble with Dave , Roseanne , Sister, Sister , Crazy About You and in the film In the Stormy Way , which was only released in theaters after his death.

Strickland's life was marked by drug and alcohol abuse . In October 1998 he was arrested for cocaine possession and given a 36-month suspended sentence plus detox. He was manic-depressed . On the day of his death, he was summoned to court on new drug charges. On the morning of March 22, 1999, he checked into the Oasis Motel in Las Vegas , where he committed suicide by hanging in his room . At the time of his death he was in a relationship with the actress Tiffani Thiessen .

After his death, the role of Todd Styles in the ongoing production of the sitcom Susan was not re-cast. Instead, he was remembered in the episode Der Bittere Abschied ( A Day In The Life ), in which he disappears without a trace and in the end can only be guessed at what happened to him. The episode closes with the dedication: "The gods of comedy looked down on you and smiled."
