David Moorer West (born August 29, 1980 in Teaneck , New Jersey ) is a retired American basketball player who was last active for the Golden State Warriors .

Career

Though raised in New Jersey, West attended Garner High School in Garner , North Carolina and the Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham , Virginia . He graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications .

New Orleans Hornets

West was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in the first round, ranked 18th overall in the 2003 NBA draft . In the 2005-06 season he was voted No. 2 on the NBA Most Improved Player Award . Between 2006 and 2011, West had his best time in New Orleans, averaging 20 points and 8 rebounds. In 2008 and 2009 he was selected as a reserve player for the NBA All-Star Games . In eight years with New Orleans, however, he only reached the playoffs three times. With 8690 points and 3853 rebounds, West left the Hornets as the most successful points collector and rebounder in team history.

Indiana Pacers

For the 2011/12 season West left the Hornets and signed a 2-year contract with the Indiana Pacers . With the Pacers he scored his first triple-double on January 12, 2013 with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assist. In the summer of 2013, he extended his contract for three more years.

San Antonio Spurs

In the summer of 2015, he let his player option for the 2015/16 season ($ 12.6 million) with the Pacers lapse to be hired for the veteran's minimum salary of $ 1.4 million with the San Antonio Spurs .

Golden State Warriors

On July 9, 2016, West signed a one-year veteran minimum of $ 980,432 with the Golden State Warriors . He waived around $ 11 million to pursue the dream of the late NBA title. West developed into an important role player from the bench, with his quality as a ball distributor being decisive. In January and February 2017, he missed 14 games due to a broken left thumb. In the comeback win against his old team, the San Antonio Spurs , West achieved his season high of 15 points on March 29, 2017 and the highest point differential of the game (+23).
