David Wooldridge
Humphry Michael David Wooldridge (born August 24, 1927 in Deal / Kent , † June 5, 1998 in Bridgewater , Connecticut ) was a British conductor and composer .
Life
Wooldridge studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the Vienna Music Academy . 1954–55 he was a conductor at the Bavarian State Opera . He then worked as a guest conductor in various American orchestras until 1968. He was also musical director of the Beirut Symphony Orchestra from 1961 to 1965 and then of the Cape Town Orchestra until 1968 .
He composed, among other things, an orchestral partita, a viola concerto and film scores and was the author of the book Conductors' World (1970) and a biography of Charles Ives (1974).
Awards
In 1951 he received the Composition Prize from the Royal Philharmonic Society in London.
