Davor Kajfeš (born October 6, 1934 in Zagreb , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian jazz pianist and composer who worked as a music teacher in Sweden .

Live and act

Kajfeš studied at the Academy of Music in his native city until he graduated in 1964, but has played in the Zagreb Radio Dance Orchestra since 1957 . In addition, he began to compose for film and television. In 1959 he became a member of the Zagreb Jazz Quartet , which he soon directed. He toured Europe with this quartet and performed with Art Farmer , Buck Clayton , Jerome Richardson , Julius Watkins , Helen Humes , Willie Dixon ( The First European Blues Tour ), Big Joe Turner , T-Bone Walker , Csaba Deseő , Albert Mangelsdorff and Red Mitchell on.

In 1967 Kajfeš moved to Sweden, where he performed with Svend Asmussen and Alice Babs . He made the record Simple Isn't Easy with Babs . His main job was in Stockholm at Danshögskolan . He also composed for the television ballet Balanse with Walter Nicks as choreographer and for the television production Choreographer is Improvising with P. Christopher. In 1979 he presented himself at the Monterey Jazz Festival . In 1995 he performed in a duo with John Lewis .

His composition Collision won the 1974 Concours International de Composition de themes de Jazz-Monaco. Other compositions by him are: Davor's Blues, Degression, Ornaments, Boogie Balkanique, Eftertanke. Some of his works have also been played by the Modern Jazz Quartet . In 2002 he presented the album Impositions with the cellist Peter Schuback .
