Csaba Deseő (born February 15, 1939 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian violinist , violist and jazz violinist .

Life

Csaba Deseő's mother was a violin teacher. He started playing the violin at the age of ten, continued his studies at the Béla Bartók Conservatory and graduated in 1961. At first he was a music school teacher. In 1967 he became a member of the Hungarian National Philharmonic and remained so until 1999. During the time of General Music Directors János Ferencsik and Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi , he played in concerts with the orchestra in Hungary and in countless countries from Japan to the USA . Some of the names of the great personalities with whom Deseő has worked: Antal Doráti , Sir George Szolti , Leonard Bernstein , Claudio Abbado , Lorin Maazel , Riccardo Muti , Lamberto Gardelli , Giuseppe Patanè , Christoph von Dohnányi , Ádám Fischer , Yehudi Menuhin , David Oistrach , Svjatoslav Richter , Mstislav Rostropovich .

Deseő's jazz career began in 1963 in the legendary Dalia Club in Budapest . Here he introduced himself with his first combo. Since 1964 his quartet has performed regularly in concerts, but also on Hungarian radio and television. Deseő was able to establish himself abroad from 1966 by performing at the then Yugoslav Bled Jazz Festival . In the same year he performed with his quartet at the Prague International Jazz Festival and with the guitarist Andor Kovács at the Warsaw Jazz Jamboree . Csaba Deseő's first LP was released in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1975 with the then leading jazz label MPS in Europe . On the LP "Four String Tschaba" he played the violin and viola , the players were the absolute elite of the German jazz scene of the time, German, English and Swedish musicians. Most of the titles came from the pen of Dieter Reith , who also worked as a pianist and arranger. Csaba Deseő has made four LPs and 6 CDs with Hungarian and foreign musicians in the past few years. In 1975 he met the vibraphonist Boško Petrović from Zagreb , with whom he played regularly until 2011. Since the 1970s he has also played more often with Walter Kurowski's formations in Germany, mainly in the Ruhr area. Since 1980 Deseő has worked with changing line-ups. In recent years he has mainly played with musicians from Budapest, especially with the trio of the guitarist István Gyárfás , as well as with the pianist Gábor Cseke . As a guest soloist, he has performed numerous concerts with the Benko Dixieland Band and the Budapest Ragtime Band . Over time, he has also played with international stars from the jazz world, including Jean-Luc Ponty , John Lewis , Jiggs Whigham , Martin Drew , Dusko Goykovich , Tony Lakatos , Gábor Szabó , Tommy Vig and Aladár Pege .

Deseő works for the Hungarian trade magazine Gramofon .
