David Semyonovich Blok

Dawid Semjonowitsch Blok ( Russian Давид Семёнович Блок , scientific transliteration David Semënovič Blok ; born December 11, 1888 in Taganrog ; died October 4, 1948 in Moscow ) was a Russian-Soviet conductor and composer . He was the main conductor of Russian cinema, almost from the beginning of the sound film . He was a member of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee .

Live and act

Blok studied at the Rostov Conservatory (1913-1918). He began his creative activity in 1905 as an orchestra conductor. During the silent film era , he directed orchestras in major cinemas and wrote silent film music ( Мать The Mother, 1926, Пленники моря Prisoners of the Sea, 1928 and others). From 1930 he appeared as a composer and conductor of sound films. He wrote and edited music for more than 200 films. He conducted the world premiere of the 2nd orchestral suite from Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet . Blok was the organizer and head of the State Orchestra of the Ministry of Cinematography of the USSR . DS Blok and S. Tschernetski wrote the arrangement for the music for the 19-minute color film Victory Parade ( Russian Парад Победы , scientific transliteration Parad Pobedy ) about the great Victory Parade on June 24, 1945 on Moscow's Red Square . Blok received various honors and awards. He is buried in the Wostryakovo cemetery. The conductor Vladimir Jurowski is his great-grandson. His works have been in the public domain since 2019.
