DBNA (an acronym for “You are not alone”) is a German-language internet platform for gay , bisexual , transsexual and male adolescents who are in the sexual orientation phase.
The portal began in 1997 as an Internet platform for everything to do with coming out . In addition to its function as an online community , the offer, which is supervised by volunteers, offers editorial content on gay life, current reports, reviews, TV tips and advice. Together with partners, DBNA also offers counseling and pastoral care for young users. DBNA has been run in the legal form of a GmbH since 2013 .
In 2009 DBNA was nominated for the Grimme Online Award in the "Knowledge and Education" category.
Online magazine
The editorial part comprises an online youth magazine with a focus on the areas of interest of gay and bisexual boys and a strong focus on the questions and problems of young people in their sexual orientation phase. The focus on the emotional world of young people is also reflected in the naming of the main categories of the magazine, which are broken down as follows:
- Life - editorial content on current topics; Background reports, interviews, columns
- Love - information and advice on everything to do with love, the body and sexuality
- Leisure - reports from the areas of entertainment, lifestyle and event information
- Coming-out - advice texts, as well as contact options for youth and coming-out groups
- Media library - pictures and videos for events, films and other events / reports
Community
Since 1999 the offer has also included community elements. For registered users, this now includes user profiles, a short message system, gallery management, individual friend lists, the ability to publish posts and an active forum. In the forum, anonymized contributions can be made in some areas. Author, user picture and number of posts are not displayed for these posts. The administrators try to keep an overview of the registrations and possible " fakes " through an optional verification of the user data by comparison with the ID card and the manual release of the images posted by the users .
Use of the DBNA community functions is restricted to registered users.
Financing and affiliate programs
The offer is free of charge. The operation of the portal is financed through the insertion of banner advertisements and the integration of partner programs (e.g. amazon.de , Spreadshirt ). In addition, donations have been collected via the Steady platform since March 2019. If desired, donors will be marked as such in the community and will receive advertising freedom from a certain amount onwards, and they will also receive additional functions in the future.

Range of the offer
The portal has an active community within the clearly defined target group and has around 130,000 registered users. According to information from the marketer ontiger media, who also markets the portal in its portfolio, DBNA has around 25.4 million page views per month.
