The DeSoto Deluxe (also: DeSoto DeLuxe ) was a car that Chrysler manufactured under the DeSoto brand from 1946 to 1952. It was DeSoto's cheapest model and was mainly offered as a 4-door sedan. The deluxe series also included a longer chassis on which sedans called Suburban were created.
The Deluxe differed from the better-equipped sister model Custom by simpler chrome equipment , fewer standard extras, a simpler interior and a smaller number of color combinations.
Deluxe and Custom had the same engine, an in-line six-cylinder from Chrysler with 3813 cc displacement and side-mounted valves, which developed 109 bhp (80 kW) power at 3600 rpm.
The deluxe models of the model years 1946, 1947, 1948 and 1949 (1st half) had DeSoto's pre-war body, which was slightly redesigned after the end of the Second World War . A completely redesigned DeSoto Deluxe appeared in the second half of the 1949 model year.
1950 saw the brand's first station wagon with the custom model, although it was not available as a deluxe. The same applies to the hardtop coupé.
The Deluxe remained DeSoto's basic model until it was replaced by the Powermaster in 1953 .
