The DeSoto Powermaster was a car offered by Chrysler under the DeSoto brand in the 1953 and 1954 model years. The car was presented on DeSoto's 25th company birthday and replaced both the entry-level Deluxe and the better-equipped Custom .

The Powermaster was a large car that was available as a 2- and 4-door sedan and as a 5-door station wagon. The vehicles were powered by Chrysler's six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 4038 cm³. In both years of production an 8-seater sedan with folding seats was also offered. The Powermaster was also available on a longer chassis with a 3543 mm wheelbase, in contrast to the normal 6-seater sedan with a 3188 mm wheelbase. A long chassis version was also used as the base for the DeSoto taxi featured in many Hollywood films from the late 1930s to the mid 1950s.

The cars also had a curved windshield that replaced the two-piece windshield on earlier models. Interior heating, electric clock, brake booster , power steering and whitewall tires were available on request for an extra charge.

Because of the Korean War , the Powermasters, which were created at the beginning of the 1953 model year, had only minimal chrome jewelry; When the restrictions on material procurement were lifted, there was also better equipment.

The Canadian Chrysler works built the Powermaster as a 4-door sedan and 2-door hardtop coupé, which, however, was not offered in the USA. In Canada, Chrysler's inline six-cylinder engine with 4263 cc and upright valves, which first appeared in 1952 in the Chrysler Windsor , was used.

The Powermaster was discontinued at the end of the 1954 model year when DeSoto switched all models to V8 engines.
