DeWitt Bodeen

DeWitt Bodeen , also Dewitt Bodeen and De Witt Bodeen (born July 25, 1908 in Fresno , California , United States , † March 12, 1988 in Woodland Hills , California) was an American writer , playwright and screenwriter for film and television .

Life

After graduating from UCLA, Bodeen tried his hand at being a stage actor and occasionally as a playwright as well. Of his works, only Harvest of Years made it to Broadway in New York . The short-lived piece ran there from January 12th to 26th, 1948 and had a total of 16 performances.

His cinematic career began in 1942 when the producer, who specializes in horror films , hired Val Lewton Bodeen. Bodeen's first film, Katzenmenschen , was a resounding success, and Bodeen continued his collaboration with the B-film producer until 1944. After that he only worked sporadically for the cinema. His later successes include the soulful family film Mysteries of the Mother and The Damned of the Seas , an allegory of good and evil in the guise of an adventure and seafaring film. There Bodeen worked with Peter Ustinov . It was to be his last film activity. Before that, in the 1950s, Bodeen had limited himself entirely to television authorship.

DeWitt Bodeen has also authored a number of books on personalities from film, including From Hollywood and More From Hollywood! He was also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for three years . In the later years of his life he spent a lot of time in Cadaqués in northeastern Spain and occasionally came to London to work for the local theater.
