Dead Dawn ( English about: " lifeless dawn " or " dead start ") is the second studio album by the Swedish death metal band Entombed AD It was published on 26 February 2016 and produced by Nico Elgstrand, Jacob Hellner and Tom van Heesch . Lars-Göran “LG” Petrov explains the album title as follows: “If you wake up and have no plan at all, then it's a dead start. Even if you have a plan when you wake up, you still don't know what the day can bring. "

Emergence

In contrast to the last albums with Entombed , which were recently many years between their releases, the band was already working on new material while touring for the previous album Back to the Front . During this time they worked on the follow-up album for 15 months.

Cover design

The cover of the album was designed by Erik Danielsson from Watain . LG Petrov said in various interviews: “We wanted buyers to know what they were getting into right away. Erik is a great artist and a great man. He knew immediately what we wanted and did the artwork in a few days. ”“ We had some ideas for the cover and he came back with an idea a day later. The human head and things go in the head. I looked at it from a distance and it looked great on me. "

Outcouplings

Midas in Reverse was released on YouTube for promotional purposes in January 2016 shortly before the album was released. A video was released for the title song Dead Dawn in October 2016.

reception

  • Rock Hard judged in issue # 346: “However, the Swedes are now struggling more badly than right to improve the riff and songwriting level of such (then still innovative) genre classics as“ Wolverine Blues ”or“ Uprising ” to reach. Ultimately, ENTOMBED AD are no longer the only ones plowing this field. ”The reviewer awarded a grade of 7.0.
  • The Metal Hammer wrote: “In 2016 the Death Metallers compensated for the restructuring, have grown together and are concentrating on their core competencies again. [...] DEAD DAWN gives this impression at least over long stretches: The energetic 'Midas In Reverse' bites straight on like a hungry zombie, the title track conjures up morbid elemental forces between gallop and ominous Black Sabbath riffs, and the climax 'Down To Mars To Ride 'crosses UPRISING thrust and CLANDESTINE brutality. ”And awarded 5/7 points.
  • Metal.de said: “After the rather dispensable quasi-comeback, ENTOMBED AD have caught up and audibly put a shovel on“ Dead Dawn ”. With a significantly more Thrash-heavy and lively pace than on the predecessor, Petrov, Elgstrand, Dahlstedt and Brandt are actually able to produce songs that, should ENTOMBED AD keep the high number of hits from the release and tour cycle, definitely to be serious numbers in the canon of one of the most important ones Sweden bands could mature. ”And awarded 7/10 points.
