Dead Serious was a Belgian thrash metal band from Antwerp that was founded in 1987 and broke up in 1993.

history

The band was formed in July 1987 after the groups Explorer and Trial split up. Dead Serious consisted of Explorer members Armand 'Armando Don Beast' Thiébaut (vocals), Ivan De Strooper (electric guitar) and Jan 'Jay' Van Der Poorten (electric guitar) and trial members Gunther 'Gunny' Poppe (Electric bass) and Marc Vereecken (drums). Together they recorded a demo and distributed it to increase their awareness. Singer Thiébaut left the band for a short time. The remaining musicians looked in vain for a suitable replacement, so Thiébaut returned to the band. On April 17, 1988, the band played as the opening act in Hoogstraten . This was followed by the recording of the first official demo in August 1988 and several live performances in the Netherlands , including a concert in November with Messiah and one with Blessed Death and Cyclone .

On February 4th, 1989 the band played in Rotterdam together with Usurper , Crivits , Sjölmord, Sinister and Brain Implosion. On May 20, another appearance followed in Laakdal with Godsend, Thyrus and Patriarch . This was followed by other appearances in the Netherlands, including an appearance in the Dynamo Club in Eindhoven, another in Hengelo and in October 1989 in Hoogstraten with Terminator and Unusual. In January 1990 negotiations began with Justice Records . Since the drummer Vereecken had to do his military service this year, the recordings for the debut album could only begin towards the end of the year. At the end of November 1990 the recordings were finished, but Justice Records had to struggle with financial problems, so that a release on this label was no longer possible. The band then sent their material to around 30 different labels, which led to a contract with Toxo TCM , a sub-label of the German label West Virginia Records . The debut album It's a Nice Day was released towards the end of 1991. In 1992 the band recorded another demo, but without reaching a record deal. After a few more appearances and participation in a band contest, in which they reached the semifinals, the band broke up in May 1993.

After the dissolution

Drummer Marc Vereecken had a motorcycle accident in June 1993 and died after two weeks in a coma. Later in 1993, Ivan De Strooper, Jan 'Jay' Van Der Poorten and Gunther 'Gunny' Poppe formed the band Die Sinner Die with former Mind-Ruin drummer Jeannot Schram. Poppe also took over the vocals. The band recorded a demo and played a few concerts until the group split up in April 1995.

style

The band played aggressive, classic thrash metal. Frank Trojan compared her to Slayer in Rock Hard .
