Dean Burk

Dean Burk (born March 21, 1904 , † October 6, 1988 ) was an American biochemist who is known, among other things, for the co-discovery of biotin and the co-development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Active in cancer research, he worked at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute and the National Cancer Institute . In 1934, together with Hans Lineweaver, he developed the Lineweaver-Burk diagram as an analysis method in enzyme kinetics .

When he was 15, he went to the University of California, Davis , and a year later he moved to the University of California, Berkeley , where he received his BS in entomology in 1923 . Four years later he received his Ph.D. in biochemistry.

In the course of his career, Burk published over 250 scientific articles.
