Debbie Ngarewa-Packer

Debbie Ngarewa-Packer (* 1966 in Pātea , South Taranaki District , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand politician of the Māori Party and has been the co-chair of her party since 2020.

Life

Debbie Ngarewa - Packer was born in 1966 to the future Māori teacher Hemi Ngarewa and his Irish-born wife Colleen Cleasby in Pātea , in the southwest of the North Island of New Zealand. It comes from her father line the Iwi s (tribes) Ngāti Ruanui , Ngāruahine and Nga Rauru . She is married to Neil Packer , with whom she has three children. She received her secondary education at New Plymouth Girls' High School .

She studied at the University of Tasmania , where she graduated with a Masters in Business Administration and a Diploma in Business Management . Later, in 2013, she graduated from Stanford University in California , where she graduated with a leadership degree in the primary sector .

She worked for the Institute of Directors New Zealand , Business Mentors New Zealand and the Institute of Management Consultants NZ .

In 1999 she moved back to Taranaki and became CEO of Te Reo Irirangi o Taranaki . In 2002 she took over the presidency of the Whakaruruhau National Maori Radio Collective . In 2008 she ran for a seat in the South Taranaki District Council and was able to take the position of Deputy Mayor (mayor) due to the second highest number of votes . Further offices in numerous organizations followed.

Ngarewa - Packer is currently the chair of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Ruanui (Council of the Ngāti Ruanui Tribe ) and has been co-chair of the Māori Party since April 2020 .

Ngarewa - Packer was nominated by her party for the 2020 general election for the constituency of Te Tai Hauāuru .
