Debby Winkler

Debby Winkler (born April 3, 1959 as Debby Malloy; † February 21, 2011 in Münster ) was an American show jumper .

Career

Malloy was the daughter of a horse breeding family from New York. As a teenager she was part of the alpine ski team in the junior division of the US Ski Association. Because of a severe ligament injury in her knee, she turned to equestrian sports. As a student of Nelson Pessoa , she came to Europe in 1976 and trained from 1986 with the show jumping rider and Olympic champion Hans Günter Winkler in Warendorf . She married him on December 9, 1994.

She was successful in numerous jumping competitions. Among other things, she achieved second place at the Frankfurt Grand Prix in 1998 with her horse Sakrus HG .

On February 18, 2011 Debby Winkler suffered serious injuries to the spine and cervical vertebrae in a riding accident . She succumbed to her injuries three days later in the Münster University Hospital .
