action

A 16-year-old girl is found murdered in a quiet American town. This arouses detective interest in the schoolgirl Mary Giordano, who is decried as a do-gooder in her environment. She watches a young man address girls in the swimming pool. Overzealously she sprays pepper spray in the eyes of the supposed culprit the next time she meets him in the supermarket and thus makes her first acquaintance with Tony Campbell, an attractive junior police officer. He forgives her the faux pas and promises to support her in her investigations in the future. Mary independently investigates the owners of the cars that were seen at the crime scene. She and Tony observed one of them for several hours. Earl Parkins runs a fairground ride.

The city's chief of police, to whom she now reports regularly, Detective Guinn, warns Mary against daring research. Because the perpetrator turns out to be a serial killer. Quite unexpectedly, after having sex with Tony the previous night, she discovers more and more clues in his house that she was not that wrong with her initial suspicion. She leaves the house in panic.

The next day, the hype man, Earl Parkins, is found hanged in a factory building with another girl's body next to him. The case seems to have been solved. But Mary still has no peace of mind. Parkins has a mutilated hand. How can someone use it to fasten a rope to the girder in the hall? Once again, Mary returns to the last crime scene. There she finds Polaroid photos, so-called selfies, that show Tony with a girl's corpse. You are now the definitive proof that your first suspicion was correct. He emerges quietly from the background and approaches his former girlfriend. But rescue is already approaching in the form of Detective Guinn. A lead led him here. Tony wins a duel between the two police officers by breaking the neck of his superior. Now the self-proclaimed detective is on her own again. During the subsequent chase across the gallery of the hall, Tony loses his balance, falls into a glass shredder and is killed in the process.

A few weeks later: Mary chooses the profession of policewoman, a job that is made for her and that she will probably do with great commitment.
