background

With songs like My Time Is Your Time and I'm Just a Vagabond Lover , Rudy Vallée became known beyond Manhattan's cafes in the late 1920s. With romantic songs like Deep Night he was soon the "musical sex symbol of the late 20s for many young girls, the forerunner of entertainers like Frank Sinatra , Elvis Presley and The Beatles ". " Deep night, stars in the sky above ", says Vallées lyrics to the music of the songwriter and vocal coach Charles Henderson, " deep in the arms of love ". Rudy Vallée and His Connecticut Yankees recorded the song for Victor Records on February 6, 1928 (# 21868). In addition to Vallée, Ruth Etting was also successful with her version of the song (Columbia 1801-D) in the American charts. Vallée introduced the song in a Vitaphone music film and played the song again on August 11, 1937 (Bluebird 7140). Music magazine Variety included the song in their Hit Parade of an Half Century list .
