The company was originally founded under the name Lübecker Stauereikontor Hans Lehmann on April 1, 1926. Between 1953 and 1957 the shipping company operated the Travemünde – Copenhagen – Helsingborg service with the Dania passenger ship .
The company has been based in the Hanseatic City of Lübeck since the company's foundation . Today, Hans Lehmann KG is the parent company of the Lehmann Group with various subsidiaries .

Terminals
Lehmannkais 1 to 4 and the CTL Cargo Terminal Lehmann are located on the northern bank of the Trave in the districts of Lübeck-Siems and Lübeck-Herrenwyk.
In 2019, a total of around 2.3 million tons of goods were handled at the Lehmann terminals.
Lehmannkai 1
The Lehmannkai 1 is a private port facility on the northern shore Travelodge northwest of the Herren Tunnel in Lübeck district Kücknitz district Siems. The transshipment mainly includes forest products (e.g. cellulose). A concrete plant and a fuel tank farm are also located on the Lehmannkai 1 site.
The terminal is equipped with two hydraulic excavators from Liebherr and Sennebogen and other handling equipment.

Lehmannkai 2
The Lehmannkai 2 is a private port facility on the northern shore Travelodge east of the Herren Tunnel in Lübeck district Kücknitz district Herrenwyk . The transshipment mainly includes rolling cargo (e.g. semi-trailers , new vehicles and construction machinery) and paper rolls.
The terminal is equipped with two port gantry cranes from the manufacturers Peiner and Demag , terminal tractors , reach stackers and other handling equipment. Lehmannkai 2 is partly located on the site of the former Flender shipyard .

The Lehmannkai 3 is a private port facility on the northern bank of the Trave district of Lübeck Kücknitz district Herrenwyk . CTL - Cargo Terminal Lehmann
The CTL (formerly Container Terminal Lübeck ) is now a private port facility on the northern bank of the Trave, northwest of the Herrentunnel in the Lübeck district of Kücknitz, Siems. The handling mainly includes containers and project cargo. In addition, semi-trailers are handled in combined transport .
The terminal is equipped with two mobile harbor cranes (125 t) from Terex , four reach stackers and other handling equipment. There is a railway connection.
