Deepto Chakra Party

Deepto Chakrabarty (born June 28, 1966 ) is an American astronomer and astrophysicist , who mainly deals with X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy .

Chakrabarty studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) until his bachelor's degree in 1988. He continued his studies at Caltech , graduating in 1992 with a master's degree and in 1996 with a PhD in physics. At Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory , he worked in the Supernova Cosmology Group from 1988 to 1990 . In 1996, he conducted research as a postdoctoral fellow at MIT (and two years at the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory of NASA ), where he became assistant professor in 1998, associate professor in 2004 and 2008, Professor. Since 2008 he has headed the astrophysics department there.

In 1998 he spent a year as a Visiting Fellow at Balliol College of Oxford University .

As an observing astronomer, he is particularly concerned with neutron stars and black holes . In 2006 he received the Bruno Rossi Prize . From 2001 to 2003 he was able to work as a Sloan Fellow within the program of the same name. In 2011 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society .
