Deer Trail is a Statutory Town in Arapahoe County , Colorado . It is located off Interstate 70 , approximately 89 km east of Denver .
The city dates back to a stop on the Kansas Pacific Railway ; it was a transfer point for cattle and food. The city was hard hit by the Great Depression and flood in 1965. The site made international headlines in 2013 with the proposal to shoot down surveillance drones.
