Deer Trail is a Statutory Town in Arapahoe County , Colorado . It is located off Interstate 70 , approximately 89 km east of Denver .

The city dates back to a stop on the Kansas Pacific Railway ; it was a transfer point for cattle and food. The city ​​was hard hit by the Great Depression and flood in 1965. The site made international headlines in 2013 with the proposal to shoot down surveillance drones.
