Dehqonobod (Qashqadaryo Province)

Dehqonobod is a district in Uzbekistan's southern Qashqadaryo Province . The main town of the district is Karashina .

The district is located in southeast Uzbekistan. In the east, about 100 kilometers away, is the border with Tajikistan , in the south it joins Turkmenistan and in the south-east one reaches Afghanistan . Geographically, the district is shaped by the western foothills of the Alai Mountains . The high mountains drop here towards the lowlands of Turan , so that Dehqonobod is only about 500 meters above sea level.

Dehqonobod is located on the major M39 highway , which runs from Termiz in the southeast on the border with Afghanistan to the Uzbek capital Tashkent .

population

In 2000 the population of the district was 70,648 people. This makes Dehqonobod one of the less populated districts of Qashqadaryo Province. About two thirds of the population are Uzbeks and almost one third are Tajiks . There are also smaller minorities of Turkmen , Russians and Tatars .
