Association area

The dike association is responsible for an area in the northeast of East Frisia . The area, which includes all plots of land located in the protection of the main dykes up to a height of +5.00 m above sea ​​level including the higher ground elevations within this area, extends over the north of the Wittmund district and the northeastern part of the Aurich district .

The main dyke line in the area of ​​responsibility of the Esens-Harlingerland dyke is 28.3 kilometers long. It extends from the general plan kilometer 199.0 between Neßmersiel and Dornumersiel to the general plan kilometer 227.3 kilometers on the district border between the district of Wittmund and the district of Friesland near Harlesiel .

In addition to the main dike line, the dyke association is also responsible for a second dike line in the area of ​​the Münster polder west of Dornumersiel and the dam polder and the Westerburger polder between Dornumersiel and Bensersiel .

The association area of ​​the Esens-Harlingerland dyke is bordered to the west by the association area of ​​the north dike and to the east by the association area of III. Oldenburg dike tape .

The dike association has the task of protecting properties in the association area from storm surges . To this end, he maintains the dikes in the association area.

For the maintenance of the dykes, the dyke farm maintains sheep farms .
