Delaney Rudd

Delaney Rudd (born November 8,  1962 in Halifax, North Carolina ) is a retired American basketball player .

career

Rudd, a 1.88-meter-tall construction player, was on the college team at Wake Forest University in North Carolina from 1981 to 1985 . He finished his college years with an average of 11.7 points, 2.5 templates and 1.7 rebounds per game. The NBA team Utah Jazz secured  the rights to Rudd in the 1985 draft , he was called in the fourth selection round in 83rd place.

He began his career as a professional basketball player in the summer of 1985 with the Westchester Golden Apples in the United States Basketball League  (USBL). He gained his first international experience with the Greek first division club PAOK Thessaloniki (from 1987). Between 1989 and 1992 he played 224 NBA games for Utah and achieved 3.5 points per encounter. In 1992/93 Rudd played for the Rapid City Thrillers in the North American league Continental Basketball Association (CBA) (12 appearances: 19.3 points and 9.1 basket assists / game), briefly for Paris Basket Racing in France (two league games: 26 points / Game), then made his NBA return at the beginning of 1993 when he was signed by the Portland Trail Blazers . In Portland he came to 15 NBA appearances (1.7 points / game).

Rudd had his most successful time at ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne . He played for the French first division club from 1993 to 1999. He achieved his highest point average during this time in the 1994/95 season (23.6 points / game), and he recorded his best value for basket assists in the French league in 1995/96 (8 , 9 / game). With ASVEL he was French cup winner in 1996 and 1997, in 1996, 1997 and 1999 they reached the runner-up, Rudd was named the best player in the league in 1996 and 1997. In the EuroLeague , he advanced to the semi-finals with ASVEL in 1997, where they were defeated by FC Barcelona . In a tribute to Rudd by ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne, the American was described as a "symbol of the rise of ASVEL in the 1990s". His shirt number 4 is no longer awarded by ASVEL in recognition of Rudd's achievements.

In 1999 he ended his career, went back to his home country and worked as an employee of an indoor sports facility in Greensboro . He also founded a basketball academy for young people.
