Delano is a city in the US state of California in Kern County . It has about 43,400 inhabitants (as of 2004) on an area of 26.3 km².
Delano was founded on July 14, 1873 as a railway station. The city was given the name by the Southern Pacific Railroad to honor Columbus Delano , then chairman of the US Department of the Interior.
Besides Chino , Folsom and San Quentin , Delano is an important prison in which part of the plot of the monumental film Blood in, Blood out - Conspirators for life and death takes place.
