Dementia village

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dementia village is a form of care for people with dementia . The residents live in house communities in a settlement that is closed off from the outside . It is specially tailored to the needs of people with dementia. The fencing should give the residents freedom in a protected space. There are typically facilities on the premises such as a grocery store, barber shop, gym, cafe or restaurant. As part of professional care , residents receive activating care . In the village, people with dementia should be able to live as independently as possible. People with dementia often have the urge to move and should be able to live it out without running away.

Often hundreds or more people live in a dementia village. A community of dementia, on the other hand, is an assisted living community for usually four to ten people with dementia.
