The People's Democratic United Organization of Sheko and Mezenger ( Amharic የሸኮና መዠንገር ህዝቦች ዴሞክራሲያዊ ግንባር Yeh-Saeko-ənna Mäžängär Həzbočč Demokrasiyawi Gənbar, interpreting. 'Democratic Front of the peoples Sheko and majang people', English Sheko and Mezenger People's Democratic Unity Organization , abbreviation SMPDUO ) is a political party in the region of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples ( YeDebub ), a region in Ethiopia .

In the last elections for the Ethiopian National People's House of Representatives on May 15, 2005, the party selected Kassahun Jarka Ziyatu as the representative of the Bench Maji district in the region of the southern nations, nationalities and peoples. This received 0.3% of the vote and was thus able to move into parliament as one of the 547 members.

In the regional parliamentary elections in August 2005, the SMPDUO only received one seat in the regional parliament of the YeDebub region. In the national by-elections in 2008 , the SMPDUO won 7 seats in a kebele in Woreda Yeki and thus gained control of this local administrative unit.

history

The SMPDUO was founded in 2000 on the instructions of the ruling coalition Revolutionary Democratic Front of the Ethiopian Peoples ( EPRDF ), which hoped to create three existing woredas within the local political framework - the Godere Spezial-Woreda within the Gambela region and the woredas Sheko and Yeki from the region of the southern nations, nationalities and peoples - to unite into a new ethnic zone. After all this, the organization received a bad reputation for its racist statements, which dissuaded both the Democratic Movement of the South Ethiopian Peoples (member party of the EPRDF ) and the opposition from the Democratic Coalition of the South Ethiopian Peoples from working with the organization SMPDUO .

In the elections held at the end of 2001, the SMPDUO gained control of the majority of the Kebeles in Sheko and claimed victory in the woreda Yeki. The first official act of the organization after taking power was the disarming of the Kebele militias in areas where the Ethiopian National Electoral Authority did not claim to win the elections, but the SMPDUO encountered resistance. After months of frustration, individuals associated with the SMPDUO marched on Tippi , leading to ethnic violence there.
