The Democratic Movement of Südäthiopischen peoples ( Amharic የደቡብ ኢትዮጵያ ሕዝቦች ዴሞክራሲያዊ ንቅናቄ Yeh-Debub Ityopya Həzbočč Demokrasiyawi Nəqnaqe , English Southern Ethiopian Peoples' Democratic Movement abbreviated SEPDM ), including Democratic Movement of Südäthiopischen people (Southern Ethiopian People's Democratic Movement) , was a political Party in the Region of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples (SNNPR) in Ethiopia .

The party was a full member of the nationally ruling coalition of the Revolutionary Democratic Front of the Ethiopian Peoples (EPRDF), which was led by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF). On December 1, 2019, it joined forces with the coalition members Oromo Democratic Party and Democratic Amharen Party to form the new Prosperity Party .

According to data from 2005, the SEPDM had around 300,000 party members. In January 2013, it stated that it had increased its membership from 160,000 to over 1.7 million within seven years.

Election results

In the 2005 regional elections, the SEPDM won 271 of the 348 seats in the regional parliament of the region of southern nations, nationalities and peoples . In the elections to the national parliament in the same year she scored 92 out of 123 seats in the region. Of their MPs, 64 were men and 28 women. The entire EPRDF received 327 of the 527 seats.

In December 2007, the SEPDM announced that it would 790,000 candidates for election to the Woreda - and Kebele -Räten, municipalities and the Parliament make. In 2008, the SEPDM won ten additional seats in the regional parliament and all 850 seats that were filled in 13 zones , 124 woredas and 20 cities.
