Denis Auroux (born April 1977 in Lyon ) is a French mathematician .

Auroux studied from 1993 at the École Normale Superieure and obtained his degree in mathematics from the University of Paris VI in 1994 (also his degree in physics in 1995) and the Agrégation in 1995. In 1995 he received his diploma in mathematics from the University of Paris-Süd (Seiberg-Witten invariants of symplectic manifolds), in 1999 he received his doctorate at the École polytechnique under Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and Gromov (Structure theorems for compact symplectic manifolds via almost-complex techniques) and in 2003 he completed his habilitation at the University of Paris-Süd (Approximately holomorphic techniques and monodromy invariants in symplectic topology). As a post-doctoral student , he was a Moore Instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1999 to 2002 , where he became Assistant Professor in 2002, Associate Professor in 2004 and Professor in 2009 (on leave from 2009 to 2011). From 2009 to 2018 he was a professor at the University of California, Berkeley . He has been at Harvard University since 2018 .

It deals with symplectic geometry , low-dimensional topology and mirror symmetry ( mirror symmetry ) in algebraic geometry.

In 2002 he received the Prix Peccot des Collège de France . In 2005 he was a Sloan Fellow. In 2010 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad (Fukaya Categories and bordered Heegard-Floer Homology ) and in 2004 at the European Congress of Mathematicians in Stockholm.
