Denkreuther Feldkapelle
The Denkreuther Feldkapelle is the "Maria Hilf" chapel in the parish of Altenstadt an der Waldnaab ( Upper Palatinate ) near Denkreuth , east of the Barbarahof.
history
Centuries ago, every year on the Visitation of Mary (July 2nd), Bohemian pilgrims made a pilgrimage to Mühlberg and St. Felix near Neustadt . They passed the “Bohemian Cross”, which used to be attached to a tree in the forest north of Denkreuth between Hutzlmühle and Barbarahof. There - as a votive tablet from the 18th century shows - a man was suddenly healed of a 27-year-old leg disease when he was praying some Our Father and Hail Mary in this forest, seeing the cross .
The forest and the cross are gone. Today there is a chapel entitled Maria Hilf in this hall called “Auf der Öd” . Karl Beer from Denkreuth No. 1 (house name Winterpeter) is entered in the land register as the owner of the small property on which the field chapel stands . According to oral tradition, this chapel was built by the great, great, great grandfather of the current owner, Johann Wolfgang Beer, who in 1793, from Stöberlhof near Wurz, married into the Winterpeter estate in Denkreuth No. 1.
It is still called Winterpeterkapelle after the founder. The year of construction is 1810, as it is written on its masonry. In the Bishops Central Archives in Regensburg there is a letter from the pastor Isidor Rubenbauer von Altenstadt from the year 1858, in which the villagers of Denkreuth asked for the benediction of this field chapel. In it Rubenbauer writes that this chapel was built "several years ago" by the "inhabitants of the village of Denkreuth". Apart from the reply from the Vicar General, there are no written references to them. As the chronicler Heinrich Ascherl from Neustadt writes, the Bohemian pilgrims passed the field chapel until 1835 and prayed in front of the image of Mary with the baby Jesus .
present
A few years ago the above-mentioned votive tablet was stolen from this field chapel. The current votive tablet is an approximate replica. Preservation and care of the field chapel are in the hands of the descendants of the builder, the Karl Beer family.
