Today's association emerged from the Arbeitsgemeinschaft (AG) 1/11, which was founded under the patronage of the AG Kleinbahnfreunde in the German Model Railway Association (DMV). Their first goal was to prepare a historic Köpenick tram for the Köpenick Festival Week (today: Köpenick Summer ). The working group started its work in September 1967 at the Köpenick tram depot . In August 1968, work began on the future historic Cöpenicker railcar 10, the basis of which was the A277 II working railcar . It already drove on June 21, 1969 on the occasion of the 8th Köpenicker Festival Week . As a result of the great popularity of the population and politics, AG 1/11 continued its work with the development of a historic vehicle fleet. The collection grew gradually and in 1997 comprised around 20 serviceable cars.

The foundation date of the Monument Preservation Association is June 13, 1990. It was entered in the register of associations on October 22, 1992 at the Charlottenburg District Court .
