Dennis Luyt (* 1963 ) is a Dutch soldier . The Lieutenant General is in command of the Dutch Air Force .

Life

Dennis Luyt joined the Dutch armed forces in 1981 and was trained as a fighter pilot in the USA . After completing his training, he was transferred to the 313th squadron of the now closed flight base Twente near Enschede , where he was deployed as a pilot in the General Dynamics F-16 model , and later as a flight and weapons instructor . From Amendola Air Base in Italy from flying Luyt among others 1,999 forces in operations Deliberate Force and Allied Force over Yugoslavia , at the Air Force of the Armed Forces was involved, and he was an exchange pilot for several years on the McDonnell Douglas CF-18 in used by the Royal Canadian Air Force .

This was followed by an employment as a squadron captain of the 315th squadron, also in Twente, and then the Dutch general staff training. Luyt then took over positions in the Defensiestaf in The Hague and in 2007 as Military Assistant Deputy Commander Air within the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan . In 2010, he was now a Colonel and was given command of the Leeuwarden Air Base in the north of the country. Before his appointment as Commander of the Air Force, he was in charge of all operations in the Air Force Command, the Commando Luchtstrijdkrachten . On June 10, 2016, Defense Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert appointed him to succeed Alexander Schnitger as Commandant Luchtstrijdkrachten ; on June 1, 2016, he was promoted to Lieutenant General.

At a conference, Dennis Luyt described the Lockheed F-35 , which will replace the F-16 in the light of the next few years, as superior to all other current aircraft and its integration into the air force as one of the most important tasks of his tenure.

He is married and has three children.
