Since 1971, the focus of his work has been plastic works, drawings, photographs, videos and sound pieces. The interaction of the individual disciplines gives the special message of his work.
The focus of Dennis Thies' artistic activity is on people, and often also on animals. His creatures, which arise in the form of sculptures and paper cuts, have been called TISI since the 1980s .
Thies reduces sculptures in their form to a figurative abbreviation. Often he only shows an outline of the sculpture. The facial expression is restricted to two points, ellipses, or a line. Sometimes they are equipped with props such as a flower, hat, star or bottle.
