Dennis E. "Denny" Dent (born April 5, 1948 in Oakland (California) , † March 29, 2004 in Denver , Colorado ) was an American painter who was famous for his large-scale performance portraits of prominent figures in popular culture .

Dent graduated from Oakland High School with a degree in arts. His special performance style developed when, in 1980, at a commemorative event in honor of John Lennon, he painted his portrait in public for the first time on a stage to Lennon's music and met with an enormous response.

His portrait of the guitarist Jimi Hendrix , which he painted on a house wall in the three-minute opening credits for the film Jimi Plays Monterey, is famous .

Dent was married to Ali Christina Flores. He died of a heart attack at the age of fifty-six .
