The General Ocampo Department is located in the southeast of the La Rioja Province in northwest Argentina and is one of 18 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered to the north by the General Belgrano , to the east by the province of Cordoba , to the south by the Department of General San Martín and to the west by the departments of General Juan Facundo Quiroga and Rosario Vera Peñaloza .

The capital of the General Ocampo department is Villa Santa Rita de Catuna .
