The Department of Chamical is located in the east of the province of La Rioja in northwest Argentina and is one of 18 administrative units in the province.
It is bordered to the north by the Department of Capital , to the east by the provinces of Catamarca and Córdoba , to the south by the Department of General Belgrano and to the west by the Department of General Ángel V. Peñaloza .
The capital of the Department of Chamical is the Chamical of the same name . It is 135 km from the provincial capital La Rioja and 1,000 km from Buenos Aires .
