The depot I of Halle-Kanena (also Hortfund I of Halle-Kanena ) is probably a depot find of the Early Bronze Age Aunjetitz culture from Kanena , a district of Halle (Saale) ( Saxony-Anhalt ). It dates between 2000 and 1700 BC. BC Possibly it was also grave goods . The depot is now in the Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Berlin .

Find history

The exact circumstances in which the depot was found are unknown. It was sold in 1908 by the landowner Fr. Walther from Kanena to the then prehistoric department of the Royal Museum of Ethnology in Berlin. Walther stated that it had been in the family for a very long time and that it had been discovered by his ancestors at a place called "Zwei Wüsten Höfe".

The area around Halle is extremely rich in finds from the Aunjetitz culture. Also in Kanena, two further hoards ( Depot II and Depot III ) were discovered in 1923 and 1934 . Other important hoard finds come from Dieskau to the south ( Depot I , Depot II and Depot III ) and Bennewitz to the east ( Bennewitz depot ).
