Depot II from Halle-Kanena

The depot II of Halle-Kanena (also Hortfund II von Halle-Kanena ) is a depot find of the Early Bronze Age Aunjetitz culture from Kanena , a district of Halle (Saale) ( Saxony-Anhalt ). It dates between 2000 and 1700 BC. The depot is now in the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle (Saale).

Find history

The depot was discovered in 1923 during dredging work in the Alwine lignite mine south of Kanena (today the location of the exhibition hall ).

The area around Halle is extremely rich in finds from the Aunjetitz culture. At another point in the Alwine mine, a second hoard was discovered in 1934 ( Depot III ). As early as 1908, the Royal Museum of Ethnology in Berlin had bought another find from Kanena ( Depot I ). Other important hoard finds come from Dieskau to the south ( Depot I , Depot II and Depot III ) and Bennewitz to the east ( Bennewitz depot ).

The depot consists of a double-edged ax , two edge ridge axes , three closed rings, four open thick rings, two fragments of an eyelet neck ring and a cyprian loop needle . Other items may have been lost when the depot was uncovered.
