Find history

The presumably incomplete depot was discovered in 1904 when a rent was being raised . It then went to the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle (Saale) , where it is now part of the permanent exhibition.

The area around Dieskau is extremely rich in finds from the Aunjetitz culture. In other parts of the village a gold hoard ( Depot I ) and in 1937 another important hoard ( Depot III ) with items made of bronze were discovered. There were also several burial mounds (largely removed in the 19th century) , including the Bornhöck near Raßnitz , the Dieskau burial mound and the Hallberg between Benndorf and Osmünde .

The depot was found in a ceramic pot. This contained 69 objects made of bronze : 27 rings , two arm spirals , three rod daggers and eleven rod dagger blades, three axes and 23 spiral rolls . Furthermore, 106 amber - pearls found. With a total weight of 16 kg, the bronze objects represent one of the most extensive ensembles of metal objects from the Central German Early Bronze Age after the Bennewitz depot and the Dieskau depot III.
